چکیده

Snow cover phenology has exhibited dramatic changes in the past decades. However, distribution and attribution of hemispheric scale snow anomalies remain unclear. Using satellite-retrieved products, ground observations, reanalysis climate variables, this study explored onset date, end duration days over Northern Hemisphere from 2001 to 2020. The latitudinal altitudinal distributions 20-year averaged are well represented by matrixes. validation results using 850 stations demonstrated that matrixes capture spatial variability at 95% significance level during overlapping period 2001–2017. Moreover, a delayed date an earlier (1.12 decade?1, p < 0.05) detected 2001–2020 based on In addition, analysis indicated dominates increased melting season temperature is key driving factor NH 2001–2020. These helpful understanding recent change can contribute projection studies.

Detection and Attribution of Observed Changes in Northern Hemisphere Spring Snow Cover

Significant declines in spring Northern Hemisphere (NH) snow cover extent (SCE) have been observed over the last five decades. As one step toward understanding the causes of this decline, an optimal fingerprinting technique is used to look for consistency in the temporal pattern of spring NH SCE between observations and simulations from 15 global climate models (GCMs) that form part of phase 5 ...

Northern Hemisphere spring snow cover variability and change over 1922–2010 including an assessment of uncertainty

An update is provided of Northern Hemisphere (NH) spring (March, April) snow cover extent (SCE) over the 1922–2010 period incorporating the new climate data record (CDR) version of the NOAA weekly SCE dataset, with annual 95% confidence intervals estimated from regression analysis and intercomparison of multiple datasets. The uncertainty analysis indicates a 95% confidence interval in NH spring...

Observed contrast changes in snow cover phenology in northern middle and high latitudes from 2001–2014

Quantifying and attributing the phenological changes in snow cover are essential for meteorological, hydrological, ecological, and societal implications. However, snow cover phenology changes have not been well documented. Evidence from multiple satellite and reanalysis data from 2001 to 2014 points out that the snow end date (De) advanced by 5.11 (±2.20) days in northern high latitudes (52-75°...

Temporal Trends and Spatial Variability of Vegetation Phenology over the Northern Hemisphere during 1982-2012

Satellite-derived vegetation phenology has been recognized as a key indicator for detecting changes in the terrestrial biosphere in response to global climate change. However, multi-decadal changes and spatial variation of vegetation phenology over the Northern Hemisphere and their relationship to climate change have not yet been fully investigated. In this article, we investigated the spatial ...

Change in snow phenology and its potential feedback to temperature in the Northern Hemisphere over the last three decades

Trends in the duration or extent of snow cover are expected to feedback to temperature trends. We analyzed trends in dates of onset and termination of snow cover in relation to temperature over the past 27 years (1980–2006) from over 636 meteorological stations in the Northern Hemisphere. Different trends in snow duration are observed over North America and Eurasia. Over North America, the term...
